Dr. Azza Karam worked as a practitioner of international development, human rights and peace and security, since 1990. She worked within the UN for two decades, including as Coordinator of the Arab Human Development Reports for the UN Development Program (UNDP) and founder and chair of the UN Inter-Agency Task Force on Religion. She is a member of the UN Secretary-General鈥檚 High Level Advisory Board on Multilateralism and formerly served as the Secretary-General for Religions for Peace, the first woman, first Muslim, and first North African to hold this position. She is also the founding President and CEO of Lead Integrity, the first women-led global consultancy firm dedicated to serving the common good, through the leadership, competence and integrity of professionals inspired by their (diverse) faiths. She received her Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands). Dr. Karam most recently served as a Professor of Religion and Development, at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from John Cabot University.
