º£½ÇÉçÇø students participate in yoga on the Los Angeles campus

As a new student at Occidental, your health and well-being is of utmost importance to us.

At Occidental, your health and well-being come first. Our goal is to ensure every student has access to high-quality, culturally responsive medical care, counseling services, and wellness education through the Emmons Wellness Center.

All students must submit proof of health insurance coverage and complete a few additional health forms before arriving on campus.

Health Insurance/Health Insurance Waiver

All students are required to have health insurance that meets Affordable Care Act (ACA) standards. You may either:

  1. Enroll in the Occidental Student Health Insurance Plan (OSHIP), or
  2. Waive the plan if you already have comparable coverage.

NOTE: If you don’t submit a waiver, you’ll be automatically enrolled in OSHIP and billed through your student account.

Learn more about the two options below:

OSHIP is a full-service Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan through , offering comprehensive medical and behavioral health coverage locally, nationally, and internationally.

Highlights:

  • year-round coverage, including winter and summer breaks
  • primary, urgent, emergency, pharmacy, and mental health benefits

Note: OSHIP covers medical services only. Dental and vision are provided only under pediatric benefits (until age 19).

If you prefer to use your own ACA-approved plan, you must submit an online Health Insurance Waiver Form and provide proof of active coverage.

Required Health Documents

All students must complete and submit these forms by July 1 through the º£½ÇÉçÇø Health Portal (accessible once you activate your º£½ÇÉçÇø account):

  • Financial Responsibility and Consent to Treatment – must be signed by the student and parent/guardian.
  • Personal Health History – completed online through the Health Portal.
  • Immunization Record – must be an official record signed by a provider or issued by a recognized agency.
  • Physical Exam Form – required only for certain groups of residential students (see form for details).

All forms are manually reviewed by medical providers before clearance holds can be removed. Please allow 5–7 business days for processing.
